Get Uncomfortable

On Sunday I sent my fourteen year old son to a two-week sleep-away camp. It's not the first time he has been away from home for a few nights, but it is the first time he went without the safety net of a friend or family member. He is definitely out of his comfort zone. This has me thinking…..when was the last time I was out of my comfort zone?

Getting out of your comfort zone gives you the opportunity to grow. It may be something small like having lunch in a restaurant without a friend or companion. For me, I'd be a little more self-conscious of what people might think of the girl eating alone than I'm comfortable with. But there's value getting a little more comfortable being uncomfortable.
What can you learn about yourself? How have you grown and changed? Do you have any new interests or goals?
We are never too old to continue to build our self confidence. Trying something new is a great step towards this. Again, this could be a small step. For example joining a beginning tennis class. Putting yourself out there to try something new and meet new people.
Maybe we find by stepping out of our comfort zone we find a new creative space or increase our creativity into something new that brings us joy. Who knows we might find a new hobby?
So, here's your challenge: Take a step out of your comfort zone, whatever that means to you in your life. A baby step to try something new. Join that class you have always wanted to try, treat yourself to dinner, or maybe just take a walk and explore your neighborhood.
I will do the same. Lunch for one.

Love this idea, the personal challenge of stepping out of a comfort zone. I played piano for a public audience for the first time ever last night. Can I say I've already done this challenge? ;)
